Last month, I visited NYC and stayed with my buddy in
Hoboken. These are some of the pictures I made during a walk to Bagel Smashery
to get some amazing breakfast. Yes, they serve smashed bagels. Check out there

The "Fire Wave"
Finally, I made it to the elusive "Fire Wave" in Valley of Fire State Park. I wanted to visit this place since I saw a picture by Isabel Synnatschke and I read about this in her resourceful eGuide on Valley of Fire. Well, it is not as elusive as it used to be few years ago. But you still don't find many people out there.
I was there about half-an-hour before sunset and was accompanied by a friend of mine- Satyam. He was nice enough to model for me which helped me recreate a classic shot by Isabel Synnatschke. I was blessed with a nice sunset and was able to make some decent shots with different perspectives.

Urge
Lately, the light conditions in Las Vegas have been terrible for photography. Finally, we had a cloudy day with some scattered thunderstorms and the 4th of July holiday allowed me to fulfill my urge to make some landscape pictures. I headed to Red Rock NCA and made this HDR image. The light conditions were not that harsh and I did not have to make an HDR. But again today was all about fulfilling my photographic urge…I rarely try HDR and have never made an HDR image of the Red Rocks. I did go a little overboard with my processing but I again had an urge to make a cliché HDR image.
Happy Independence Day!

Cliché
is what I say when I make photographs of the Las Vegas Strip. Probably the reason behind that is I live here. Additionally, it is overly photographed and I believe that it belongs to the tourists. Or maybe I just take it for granted.
Well, I lived in India for my first twenty years, and I never photographed the city I lived in. Today, I am all excited about making photographs of my city whenever I take a trip to India. So what has changed? Maybe I do not take it for granted any more. It has suddenly become an exotic location.
This is a lesson for me and I should change my attitude towards making photographs of the Las Vegas Strip. You never know…someday I may not belong here.

Solar Eclipse
I compiled this slideshow using the pictures that I took of the eclipse. Not the greatest quality but tells the story. I was fortunate enough to witness this amazing natural phenomena.

A bad day at photography is better than a good day at work…
Took a day off yesterday and headed to Valley of Fire State Park with my dear friend – Steve. This park is host to some of the most intriguing sandstone formations in desert southwest. I have not got a chance for a while to take an outdoor photographic trip. So the goal was to satisfy my photographic urge…but a windy clear sky day was not exactly what I had in my mind. But like my dear friend and mentor like to say: “A bad day at photography is better than a good day at work…”
We took the North Shore Scenic Drive, which passes through the Lake Mead National Recreation Area. And on the way, took couple of off-road side trips. To our delight, we stumbled upon some yellow poppies scattered along an embankment of a desert wash. We also hiked into Bowl of Fire, which also has some nice sandstone formations. Also noticed some Prickly Pear cacti blooms along the North Shore Drive. Finally, ended up at Valley of Fire and made some pictures near White Domes around sunset.
All in all, a good day off…

50 Cents A Gallon
I made this picture during my trip to Saudi Arabia. This gas station had a lot of character and was very photogenic. I made this shot from the car while passing through the old parts of Jeddah.
One always knows that the gas (petrol) is cheaper in this part of the world. But it still amazes me that gas is cheaper than 50 cents per gallon for 91-premium gas. Whereas, I just filled up my tank after paying $3.70 per gallon.
